- Heater: HUUM DROP 9, wall-mounted electric sauna heater, 9.0 kW at 240V. It is designed for sauna rooms approximately 283–460 cu. ft. at 240V.
- Electrical – 240V: 37.5 amps, requires a 50A circuit breaker and minimum 8 AWG wire per HUUM’s current US installation manual.
- Dedicated circuit: HUUM recommends installing the heater/control system on a dedicated electrical circuit. The manufacturer also recommends connection without a GFCI breaker, subject to applicable local electrical codes.
- Licensed electrician required: All heater and UKU electrical connections must be completed by a licensed/certified electrician and must comply with local, state and federal electrical/building codes.
- Power cable: The heater power cable must be heat resistant and comply with UL 62 in the US / CSA 49 in Canada. HUUM specifically states that non-heat-resistant PVC-insulated cable should not be used for the heater connection.
- Wire terminations: HUUM requires the power cable ends to be crimped before connection to the heater terminal block.
- Stones required: Approximately 121 lb / 55 kg of sauna stones are required. HUUM specifies stones approximately 2–4 in. / 5–10 cm in diameter.
- Stone type: Use natural sauna-heater stones such as olivine diabase or olivine. Decorative stones are not recommended because they can break down and potentially damage or restrict airflow around the heating elements. These are included in the package.
- DROP 9 stone installation: On the DROP 7 and DROP 9, HUUM instructs installers not to place stones underneath the heating-element retainer.
- UKU WiFi Black Control: Provides digital on/off, time and temperature control, plus remote control through the HUUM mobile app when connected to Wi-Fi.
- UKU capacity: The standard UKU main module supports heaters up to 11 kW, so the DROP 9 does not require an extension box.
- Temperature range: UKU allows the sauna temperature to be set from approximately 104°F to 230°F / 40°C to 110°C.
- WiFi requirement: For remote/app operation, the UKU WiFi main module needs a reliable Wi-Fi connection. HUUM recommends positioning the module where Wi-Fi reception is sufficient.
- UKU control location: The control panel is generally installed outside the sauna near the door at user eye level. The UKU main module must be installed according to HUUM’s location and temperature requirements.
- Room sizing warning: Glass, tile, brick and other uninsulated surfaces increase the effective sauna-room volume. HUUM specifies adding approximately 3.3 cu. ft. of calculated room volume for every 1 sq. ft. of uninsulated wall surface when sizing the heater.
- Clearances: The DROP 9 has specific required safety clearances from combustible surfaces, walls, ceiling and benches, and these must be followed exactly during installation.
- Important: Final breaker size, conductor type, disconnect requirements and installation method should always be confirmed by the installing electrician against the current HUUM manual and local electrical code.
